Welcome to HeartSafeKids
At HeartSafeKids, we are dedicated to empowering individuals with the knowledge and tools to safeguard their heart health. Our advanced heart scan services, using echocardiograms and ECG, are designed to detect potential cardiac issues before they become life-threatening.
How It Works
Our Services
- A 12-lead electrocardiogram measures and records electrical activity in the heart to be examined for abnormalities.
- A limited echocardiogram produces an image of the heart on a monitor to be examined for structural issues.
- A blood pressure screening is conducted to look for issues which may point back to the heart.
- A SCA risk assessment questionnaire is completed as a tool to identify relevant markers of SCA risk in youth.
Why It’s Important
Why perform a heart screening on your child before they become more active in sports?
Detection of Undiagnosed Conditions
Heart scans can identify underlying heart conditions that may not present symptoms, such as congenital heart defects or arrhythmias, which can be particularly important for young athletes.
Prevention of Sudden Cardiac Events
Early detection of heart issues can help prevent sudden cardiac arrest, a rare but serious event that can occur during sports activities.
Guidance for Exercise Programs
Understanding a child's heart function can help coaches and trainers design appropriate training regimens that are safe and effective.
Peace of Mind for Parents
Knowing that their child's heart health has been evaluated can alleviate concerns for parents, particularly if there is a family history of heart issues.
Early Intervention
If a heart condition is detected, timely intervention can be initiated, which may include lifestyle changes, medication, or further treatment.
Contact your pediatrician immediately if your child is currently experiencing the following symptoms
- Chest pain or discomfort/racing heartbeat
- Fainting or seizure during or after physical activity
- Dizziness or lightheadedness during or after physical activity
- Unusual fatigue/tiredness
- Fainting or seizure resulting from emotional excitement, distress, or startle
- Unexplained fainting or seizures
- Unexpected shortness of breath
Overall, heart scans serve as a vital tool for ensuring the safety and health of young athletes and children, enabling them to pursue sports and physical activities with confidence.
